On 4 September 2009 the Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC) released a modern "Airline Operations Ground Staff Award". This Award cuts wages and conditions and cannot be allowed to stand.

Send an email to Julia Gillard and Anthony Albanese to tell them it is time to intervene and restore our Award wages and conditions.

Your message: (this letter can be changed to suit your individual circumstances)	Dear Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Albanese I write to express my concern and anger about the recent modern Award for ground staff in the airline industry proposed by the Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC). It is time for the Federal Government to step in and fix this Award - it cannot be left to remain. This new Award cuts wages and conditions in this industry in a significant way. Rates in existing Federal Awards are cut substantially by up to $301.56 per week. Almost every rate of pay in the existing Federal Awards has been lowered. Allowances like social disability, transport and tropical zone allowance are deleted from the Award. Personal leave entitlements are reduced by up to 5 days per year. Redundancy entitlements are cut as well. Before the Federal election you told us that employees would not be disadvantaged by Award modernisation � if this Airline Industry Ground Staff Award is not changed many people will be disadvantaged. New employees to this industry will not enjoy the wages and conditions that have been important in the past. Pressure will be put on existing employees to cut conditions because a new lower standard exists - no one's wages and conditions will be safe. I urge the Government to intervene at the AIRC and restore the wages and conditions to ground staff that the AIRC has cut. Yours sincerely
