ASU member benefits and services

ASU membership benefits
Being a union member increases your job security and protects you from unfair treatment in the workplace. This is the core benefit of being in the Union, but the ASU has also negotiated many additional benefits for members ranging from commercial offers to financial and legal advice. Following are listed some of the national benefits and information services available to you, but your Branch has a range of other locally negotiated services - see the bottom of this webpage for links to the Branch websites where you can find out further details, or ring your Branch direct for information.

* Sources of useful information
* Superannuation information

Superannuation is rightly considered a major issue given that for many people it has become their second biggest asset after the family home. Super is a crucial ingredient in our plans for retirement and will determine for many people whether they have a decent standard of living when they cease working. The purpose of the ASU's superannuation campaign webpages is to encourage Branches, ASU representatives and members to realise that they need to bargain and campaign for increased superannuation to at least the levels advised by the ACTU.

* Searching for lost superannuation?

SuperSeeker is a tool provided by the Australian Taxation Office that will look for your lost super in real time and instantly provide you with possible matches. It is free to use and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To use SuperSeeker you will need to supply your tax file number.

AUSfund is another valuable tool for locating lost super. We encourage you to use both SuperSeeker and AUSfund tools to look for any missing earnings you might have.

* Snopes - urban legends reference pages

Our inboxes are regularly bombarded by emails relating extraordinary matters with critical warnings, exhorting us to forward to everyone we know. Often, these emails are junk, containing urban legends and hoaxes that have no basis in reality. The Snopes website is the best place to check your emails for accuracy before perpetuating the junk cycle and forwarding them. Now this is a website EVERYONE should know about!

The ASU Branches across Australia also have membership benefits that they have negotiated for their members locally. We encourage you to visit the web link below for your Branch or ring them (click here for all ASU contact details).
