Fuji Xerox EBA

It's your EBA

The ASU has written to Fuji Xerox to make arrangements for negotiations for the new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA). This is an opportunity to secure better working conditions for employees.

With the active participation of ASU members and delegates, we will be able to secure the best possible working conditions in the future.

This page has been set up to provide information and regular news about the progress of the EBA. If you have any comments, or would like information related to the EBA, please e-mail Jo Justo.

There is a survey which will help your negotiating team with the information it needs to represent your interests in the EBA. If you haven't filled it out yet, please download it and do so now!

Why is it important to be an ASU member?

In negotiating your agreement, Fuji Xerox is in a much stronger bargaining position than a divided, non-union workforce. They have access to specialist legal and industrial advice from the HR department, from law firms and from their own "Union" - the AIG (Australian Industry Group). It is management's job to act in the best interests of its shareholders - that is, to minimise labour costs and to maximise its ability to make changes in the workforce.

The ASU is your union. Our only interest is to help our members to achieve the best possible outcome and to help protect their jobs. A united workforce and strong membership means that the ASU is able to devote substantial legal and industrial resources to representing technicians. It also means more negotiating power and a better deal. If it comes to a last resort situation, industrial action is more successful with greater union numbers.

What is the expected timeline for negotiations?

Initial Consultation and Surveys of ASU members: Until 31 March 2004
Election of Delegates for negotiations: During March 2004
Beginning of negotiation meetings:From 30 March
Current Agreement Expires: 30 June 2004

What happens if the agreement expires and there is no new agreement in place?

If there is no new agreement, the current EBA carries over. That is, there will be no pay increases until the new agreement comes in.

Who are my local ASU officials?

The negotiations will be coordinated by Jo Justo from the Sydney National Office, with involvement from each of the state Branches. Local workplace representatives will be involved in the negotiation process to ensure that your views are effectively communicated.

Fuji Xerox EBA stop work meeting: now let's negotiate! - 03/08/2004
Over 90 ASU members in Sydney attended a stop work meeting today in support of their claims for a new collective agreement. Management had refused to hold further negotiation meetings and had threatened to put an agreement out to the vote without the consent of delegates and their Union.

Fuji Xerox: no more negotiations - 28/07/2004
FXA management has advised the ASU that they intend to put a non-union EBA out to a vote without further negotiation. This is after the ASU requested that negotiations continue as soon as possible and after the unacceptable delay when management called a halt to the last negotiation meeting.

Fuji Xerox: It's about job security - 12/07/2004
We all know that advances in technology have changed the way work is done by Fuji Xerox technicians. We are seeking to ensure that the jobs of technicians are able to evolve with technology and that your jobs continue to be covered by a decent agreement protecting conditions.

Fuji Xerox: we are united - 29/06/2004
Your representatives on the EBA have demonstrated that they are united and committed to securing the best possible EBA for all technical employees in the Customer Support Organisation at Fuji Xerox. At the last meeting on 28 June, management put an ultimatum to drop claims for Docs, Analysts and trainers to be included in the EBA.

Fuji Xerox: third EBA meeting - 21/06/2004
At this meeting Fuji Xerox Australia (FXA) management tabled their proposed EBA draft. While there was some robust discussion, the draft and the attitude of management suggest that at this stage they are prepared to negotiate on a whole range of issues. We welcome constructive and cooperative dialogue as the best means to arrive at a new agreement that has benefits for everyone.

Fuji Xerox EBA update - 26/05/2004
The second EBA meeting was held in Sydney on 13 May 2004. It is clear from this meeting that there are large differences between the position of management and your Union. This is quite natural at this stage of the negotiations, and reflects the difference of interests - your Union is seeking an agreement that allows you to best meet your personal and family needs, management is trying to maximise profits for the company.

First Fuji Xerox EBA meeting - 30/04/2004
The first meeting for the EBA was held with management yesterday. Management indicated that they would not be seeking any major changes to the EBA. Your union representatives presented a list of items that had been raised at initial feedback meetings. This list is reproduced on the second page. The next meeting of the EBA committee will be held in Sydney on 13 May 2004.
