NAIDOC Week 2010: Unsung Heroes - Closing the Gap by Leading Their Way
NAIDOC Week 2010 is being held 4-11 July. It is a time to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Wampan Wages: a public seminar on stolen wages
Indigenous Australians allege that they worked but never received payment. They also allege they defended Australia at war but received nothing in return. The Victorian Stolen Wages Working Group and the Public Interest Law Clearing House are hosting a public seminar on Government accountability for Indigenous trust money. Know your rights on sex discrimination
Yes, it still happens. And way too often. Women are being discriminated against in their workplaces because of their marital status, family responsibilities and because they are women! Many employers get away with this illegal behaviour because women don't know their rights. The new resource produced by the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) will help to educate indigenous women in particular to understand the facts on sex discrimination and what they can do.
