Menzies EBA certified

06 February 2006

The ASU Menzies Aviation EBA was approved by the Australian Industrial Relations Commission on 25 January 2006 after it had been endorsed by staff late last year.

The Company has advised that they are working on the backpay which is substantial, and it may be ready for the pay on 16 February 2006 but if not, it will definitely be in the pay due on 1 March 2006.

The backpay is substantial with pay increases scheduled as follows:

  • 3% from 1 July 2004
  • 3% from 15 March 2005

The next pay-rise of 3% is due on 15 March 2006.

The Company have also agreed to the payment of the Social Disability allowance for part timers at the correct date, backdated to when Menzies took over the operation, so that should be there too.

Staff should also note that the agreement back pay is for all staff employed at 21 June 2005.

A Pre WorkChoices EBA

Despite the delay in finalising this EBA, it is a pre-WorkChoices EBA, which means that at least in the short term Menzies staff have avoided the harsh realities of the Federal Government's WorkChoices legislation.

Our EBA no longer relies on the Award as all the relevant terms are included in the EBA. Others in the community will not be so lucky as WorkChoices is designed to undermine Awards, and reduce the wages and conditions of many people.

Despite being safe at Menzies for the moment, we cannot stop the fight to change this legislation in the long term.

You can help join the fight by getting involved. Sign up to get alerts on campaign activities below, and stay informed about what is happening.
