Bargaining begins at Air New Zealand for 2008

Family friendly dispute on boil at Air New Zealand
In recent days the ASU has been in dispute with Air New Zealand about their failure to provide a family friendly workplace for parents returning to work. Carolyn Dean is a long-term employee with Air New Zealand who has been trying to access the Air New Zealand Enterprise Agreement (EBA) clause that allows a mother to return from maternity leave on a part time basis up until the child’s second birthday. 18 June 2003 [full story]
Malaysia Airlines cuts airport jobs in Melbourne and Sydney
Malaysia Airlines has announced the total loss of 30 jobs at Melbourne and Sydney airports. The Company has determined they can no longer afford to directly employ. At this time there is no news of any reductions in flights. 21 June 2007 [full story]

ASU seeks Commission’s intervention
Following several unsuccessful attempts by the ASU to revive negotiations for a new EBA at Air Niugini, the ASU referred the matter to the Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC) on Thursday to seek intervention and assistance in convening further meetings. The matter was heard by Commissioner Richards, who recommended that meetings be convened in Brisbane at 10.00am on 16 April and 9 May 2003 between Union representatives and the Company. Air Niugini has not co-operated with the ASU’s attempts to seek a reasonable EBA outcome through meetings that were organised at the Australian Industrial Relations Commission on 16 April and 9 May 2003. Don’t Blame the ENT for Vote at Singapore Airlines
Singapore Airlines management would have you believe that it is the ENT’s fault that Option A is going to vote. This is incorrect. Your ENT honestly told the company the results of our vote and the fact that the majority of staff wanted neither of the company’s imposed options. Second ballot required for Emirates Agreement
The announcement from HR Manager Marie Davis that the Emirates Enterprise Agreement was voted up occurred on Friday 21 April. On Monday 24 April Emirates sent an email to all staff advising that another ballot was necessary because the “ASU had threatened legal proceedings” because of “technical issues”. The ASU’s lawyers Slater & Gordon did write to Emirates on Friday about a number of significant concerns with the proposed Agreement. Some progress on Air NZ EBA
A second meeting was held with Air New Zealand on Monday, 28 February 2005 to further discuss the settlement for our EBA for Australian based staff. In this meeting we provided various information and draft clauses as promised including proposals on Salary Sacrifice, rostering committees, calculation of allowances and possible new allowance rates and superannuation choice.
