Vote YES to EBA V

Qantas Bulletin No. 104

Between Christmas and New Year all 8500 Qantas employees covered by the proposed EBA V Agreement will receive ballot papers to vote for the new Agreement.

After the endorsement of ASU members around Australia the ASU is recommending a YES vote to this ballot.

Why Vote Yes?

Your ASU National Negotiating Team believes that this deal was the best deal we could strike in the circumstances with Qantas.

We are focussed on keeping and bettering our conditions in this 12 month Agreement with a view to ensuring next time around - which begins in March / April 2002 - we are well placed to make sure we get our fair share of the profits Qantas is set to make.

While ASU members have already overwhelmingly endorsed the Agreement in meetings the formal AIRC process requires a ballot of all effected employees. Everyone should try and vote in the postal ballot.

What to Do?

A ballot paper is being posted to your home by an independent company Elections Australia Pty Ltd who are conducting the ballot. It should reach you before 9 January 2002.

To vote you must fill in the ballot paper, print your Name and Staff Number on the enclosed envelope and sign it and return it to Elections Australia in the envelope provided.

The envelope and your vote will be separated at counting and no one will know how you voted. Your vote must reach Elections Australia by Friday 18 January 2002 by 4.00pm to count.

A result will be determined by the majority of votes counted.

How to vote YES

The question the ballot paper is as follows, to vote YES place a tick in the Yes box: -

Do you approve the proposed Australian Services Union (Qantas Airways Limited) Enterprise Agreement V?

YES

NO

What if you don’t get a ballot paper?

If you have not received a ballot paper by 9 January 2002 contact your local HR Manager to organise for a new ballot paper.

Got any questions

If you have any questions on the EBA or the process contact your local delegate or ASU organiser.

A Merry Christmas to All

There is no doubt this year has been an unprecedented one for our members in the Airlines Industry.

The terrorist attack, the collapse of Ansett, a hard EBA campaign and the additional work, are all factors that have presented us with challenges this year.

Here's hoping 2002 is a better year for everyone. From the ASU staff we wish all our members a happy Christmas and a safe and prosperous new year.
