Australian jobs need to be protected from unregulated offshoring
The Australian Services Union (ASU) recently made a Senate submission in support of proposed legislation, the ‘Keeping Jobs from Going Offshore (Protection of Personal Information) Bill 2009’, that would reduce offshoring in the services industry. Federal Government moves to fix problems with modern Clerks Award after ASU campaign
The ASU welcomes the variation to the award modernisation request issued by Workplace Relations Minister Julia Gillard. The variation singles out the problems with the decisions of the AIRC in relation to the modern Clerks Private Sector Award. If left to continue, the AIRC decisions would have savagely reduced the safety net and take home pay of office workers around the country. Northern Territory Clerks get up to $100 safety net increase
The General Clerks (Northern Territory) Award 2000, which is the safety net award for around 10,000 private sector office workers in the Northern Territory, has now gained safety net rises of up to $100 a week and three additional higher grades in the Award.
