C&A: Private Sector Clerical & Administrative

Gordon and Gotch agreement overwhelmingly voted up

02 July 2007

By ASU - the clerical and administrative industry union

Gordon and Gotch staff have overwhelmingly voted up the Gordon and Gotch National Administration Agreement 2007. On 25 June 2007 the Office of the Employment Advocate (now the Workplace Authority) sent a Declaration Receipt to the ASU confirming operation of the agreement.

What happens in the life of the Agreement?

  • Three wage increases as follows:
    4% - backdated to 15/5/06
    3% - 15/6/08
    2% - 15/6/09
  • Updating of allowances.

  • All award conditions will be preserved.

  • Disputes referred to the Australian Industrial Relations Commission.

Thanks to the ASU Delegates

G&G staff and the ASU are indebted to the ASU delegates who worked tirelessly towards the end of 2006 and early 2007 to finalise the detail of the agreement. They had to deal with a number of complicated issues such as: redundancy entitlements, removal of WorkChoices' prohibited content as well as negotiate essential issues like pay and incorporating award conditions, consult with members and do their own work at the same time.

Special thanks to ASU delegates:

Judy Brown, Jackie Branch, Karen Perry, Bronwyn Dohse and Tanya Senior.

Future of Australian IR uncertain

As a result of the Howard Government's controversial WorkChoices legislation the future of your working conditions remains precarious.

In particular the future of union collective bargaining agreements, like the new G&G Agreement, is not certain.

Depending on the outcome of the next Federal election individual bargaining through AWAs could become more prominent even with a constructive working relationship with G&G management.

Collective bargaining over the last few years has brought a degree of stability and certainty to G&G staff conditions. Remaining active in the ASU will ensure this continues into the future. Union membership has never been more important than now and in the forthcoming years.
