Union Wins Wage Increases

11 August 2004

The ASU has won the 2004 $19 national wage increase for employees covered by the Contract Call Centre Industry Award from the 1 September 2004. This decision also means an increase in allowances like Meal ($9.10) and First Aid ($10.90) which have also been increased to take account of the cost of living increases.

Redundancy Entitlements Increased

A new federal standard of redundancy entitlements was also won by the Union for this Award and is effective from 22 July 2004. To view the complete Contract Call Centre newsletter which contains several tables detailing how the increases will effect you, please refer to the Related Documents section at the bottom of this news item.

Is your call centre covered by the Award?

The ASU and other Unions are working with the peak union body the ACTU to make life better for call centre employees by making sure there is a minimum standard of entitlements and wages for staff in contact call centres. This is being done by running a case in the Australian Industrial Relations Commission to create an Award with these minimum entitlements.

Unfortunately some employers are opposing the ASU's case and this includes Salesforce, Salmat and Teletech. Some employers have agreed to have their employees covered by the Award. Is you employer covered by the award? If you are not sure you can check out the ASU website www.asu.asn.au/callcentre

If you would like to know more about the award and how the ASU is campaigning for better national minimum standards for call centres please contact your local Branch.
