Call Centre Survey winners announced: RACV, Brisbane City Council and Qantas Telesales workers win!

13 May 2009

By the ASU - the call centre union

RACV consultant Andrea Platt is going to be busy over the next few weeks learning how to use her new Apple laptop after winning the top prize in the ASU's national call centre campaign survey. Fellow call centre workers at Brisbane City Council and Qantas Telesales in Hobart claimed the second and third iPod prizes.

Andrea was among more than 1,500 people who completed the ASU's "It's your call: Improving Australian call centres for workers" survey over a three month period from November 2008 to February 2009.

The prize was presented to Andrea at her workplace recently during a morning tea ceremony attended by union members and the survey's generous supporters. The prize was presented by Members Equity Bank Mobile Lending Manager Ron Ahern.

Andrea said despite owning an iPod she had never used a Macbook before. She said she would be relying on her partner and brother to teach her how to use the 2.1Ghz laptop.

"It's going to be great because we will be able to take it everywhere we go. I have already bought a laptop bag for it," Andrea said.

Andrea, who has worked at the RACV for three and a half years, said it was the first time she had ever won a prize.

"I did not believe it at first," she said.

Branch Secretary Ingrid Stitt, who spoke at the presentation ceremony, said the results from the call centre survey would help shape the Union's future campaign work in this industry. She said the call centre survey results were currently being collated by an academic and would be released later this year.

Winners of the second and third prizes in the Call Centre Survey competition were Fiona Gladwell who works a Brisbane City Council and Chris Tanner of Qantas Telesales in Hobart. Fiona won the iPod Touch and Chris won the iPod Nano.

Fiona Gladwell was absolutely delighted to win her iPod for her participation in the survey and expressed her thanks to the ASU and campaign supporters. Her prize was presented by Paul Ellul of Members Equity Bank.

"My daughter has expressed her keen interest in the iPod, however, I have attached good grades in school as a condition, if she wants to share it," said Fiona.

Chris Tanner was presented with his prize at the Qantas Telesales call centre by Angela Donovan from Members Equity Bank in front of ASU members at a local ASU briefing.

Chris was extremely happy with his prize and advised it will make a great present for his wife.
