Federal election is a referendum for working families on WorkChoices

By the ASU - fighting for your rights at work

The ACTU has launched a new television ad campaign warning that a re-elected Howard/Costello Government will go further with its IR law changes. The ad shows the real faces of unionists across the country, including Sharon, a proud ASU member.

At the launch in Brisbane earlier this week, the ACTU said that the federal election is a referendum for working families on the Liberal Government's WorkChoices IR laws.

The 30 second TV advertisement features real workers talking about their opposition to the Howard Government's IR laws and will be screened nationally.

Sharon is a member of the ASU working as a legal assistant in Melbourne. The ad shows Sharon with her four year old son, Will, who attends a council run child care centre in the inner city. Sharon said, "I wanted to be involved in this advertisement because I am very concerned about the changes to workplace laws and what it will mean for the future of children like Will. I really wanted to do something to help the campaign. I am a proud ASU member."

Across the country ASU members like Sharon are standing up in our campaign to show the real face of Australian unionists to the broader public, not just the offensive caricatures in Liberal party and big business advertising.

Launching the new TV advertising campaign ACTU President Sharan Burrow said that the Government's IR laws were a threat to the job security, employment conditions and workplace rights of millions of Australian workers.

Ms Burrow warned that the Federal Government would go further with its IR laws if the Coalition is re-elected.
