SACS: Social & Community Services

Update on bargaining at BoysTown

17 November 2009

By the ASU - the social and community services industry union

Negotiations continued at BoysTown on 16th November, 2009. A number of issues were discussed in detail. Below is a brief snapshot on the progress. If you require more information, contact your ASU Delegate or Organiser.

Snapshot

Parking

  • General Managers will be distributing a memo to all staff advising the practice for using work time to move cars for after dark workers.

Study Leave

  • Ongoing discussions.

Public Holidays

  • Christmas Day and Boxing Day are now confirmed as Public Holidays, which will be paid for on the day that they fall.  Example; if Christmas Day falls on a Saturday, staff wouldn't normally be entitled to public holiday rates for the Saturday, however, would for the Monday. This is not really fair to the people who work on that day. BoysTown have confirmed that they will pay for the day. Note: staff only get one payment for a public holiday, so if they work on both days, they will only get the public holiday rate once.

WA Remote Locality Allowance

  • Details provided and confirmed.

Rostered Days Off (RDOs)

  • RDO details have been discussed and how they could work in different areas. Employment Services is an obvious and easy option for the flexibility of RDO's to be introduced.

Wage increases & Allowances

  • Detailed discussions will occur at the next meeting scheduled for the 24th November, 2009. BoysTown will present comprehensive information on Bipers and how it will work into the future under the new modern federal awards.
