A new modern award for the employment services sector
A new modern award for the employment sector, known as the Labour Market Assistance Industry Award 2010, was finalised in early December and will replace the existing CETSS award on 1 January 2010. If you are an employee in the employment services sector and believe that you are going to be adversely affected by the implementation of the new modern award it is important to speak to your union so that we can ensure that the transitional arrangements are being followed correctly by your employer.

Down to Earth – ‘incentives’ out of the Agreement . The ASU is happy to inform our members that Mission Australia has come to the sensible decision of removing their proposed ‘incentive scheme’ from your legal pay and conditions. It has been union members’ position all along that the scheme needed to be either ALL IN or ALL OUT. Mission Australia has decided to take all reference to it out rather than negotiate a fair and agreed system that was all in.

Mission backs down!
What happened? Mission Australia made a unilateral decision to change your agreement negotiations on December 10 and 11 from a face to face meeting to a teleconference. We wrote to Mission and said this was not acceptable and that you need every opportunity to be fully represented – Mission Australia has capitulated and agreed to meet face to face at the negotiations.

Employment Services: not just a job – launch of industry survey and resources
Employment Services: not just a job is an Employment Service Worker Reconnection project which is undertaken by the ASU with funding from the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). This project will investigate issues relating to the migration of workers from Job Network providers to Job Services Australia (JSA) providers and the attraction and retention of a skilled workforce for JSA. The ASU is calling this project Employment Services: not just a job.
