Employment Services: not just a job

15 December 2009

Project Update December 2009

This update covers the employment services survey, the Industry Reference Group on Employment Purchasing, and requests for workplace meetings.

Online survey closes

The Employment Services - not just a job online survey closed 30 November 2009. 605 people completed the survey which is a magnificent result with a higher respondency rate than what we had anticipated. Data from the survey is currently being analysed. A report will be made available to DEEWR and interested participants in early 2010.

The winner of the iPod Nano is Simone from SYC Job Prospects. The ASU would like to congratulate Simone. We hope that Simone has a great time downloading and listening to some wicked music on her new iPod.

Once again thank you to everyone who participated in the survey.

Industry Reference Group on Employment Purchasing

The ASU has been invited to sit on the Industry Reference Group on Employment Purchasing which is being chaired by the Secretary of the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, Ms Lisa Paul PSM. Along with the ASU, the Industry Reference Group includes representatives from industry and the community sector.

The ASU along with employer groups have been lobbying for the establishment of this group since the Job Services Australia tender. The purpose of the reference group is to enable unions, employers and government to meet and discuss the processes for employment services tenders and contract compliance in the future.

Julie Kun has been appointed as the ASU representative. The ASU's voice at the Industry Reference Group will give the Union a greater ability to advocate regarding the concerns held by employees in the sector when it comes to tenders and contract issues.

The main points that the ASU has been highlighting as part of the reference group is the need to have stability in the sector and that any method used to measure the performance of employment service providers needs to be fair and equitable. These concerns were echoed by others at the reference group.

Request a workplace Meeting

If you are interested in the ASU visiting your workplace to talk to staff about the Employment Services: not just a job project then let us know.

As part of the Employment Services: not just a job project the ASU is conducting talks for anyone working in the employment services sector. These talks involve providing information about industrial changes that affect staff and your clients. These industrial changes include the introduction of the Fair Work Act, the introduction of the National Employment Standards and the Federal Paid Parental Leave scheme that will commence 1 January 2011. We are also happy to talk about the Union and its role in employment services. Please also complete this form if you wish an ASU membership form to be sent to you.

Please fill in your details on the form in the full bulletin which can be downloaded below and fax back to the ASU as soon as possible on 03 9342 1499 or email jkun@asu.asn.au.
