ASU National Energy Division to meet In Hobart in May

21 February 2006

The ASU National Energy/Electricity Division Committee will meet in Hobart in May 2006 for two days to discuss current issues affecting energy workers in Australia.

The agenda for the meeting includes: conditions of employment; industry skills shortages; a collective approach for electricity/energy workers at a company level; reports from industry participants such as EE-OZ training; and the National Electricity Ministers outcomes, along with the recent Council of Australian Governments (COAG) announcements.

The COAG outcomes of the latest meeting on February 10, 2006 can be found on the following page (scroll down to the "Energy" heading): http://www.coag.gov.au/meetings/100206/index.htm

The ASU Committee is made up of representatives of all ASU Branches with coverage of energy/electricity workers:

  • LGCAEAU NSW Branch (USU)
  • NSW & ACT (Services) Branch
  • Victorian Authorities & Services Branch
  • Tasmanian Branch
  • South Australia & NT Branch
  • Western Australian Branch
  • Queensland Services Branch (QSU)
  • Central & Southern Queensland C&A Branch
  • North Queensland C&A Branch

It reports to both back to those Branches as well as the National Office and National Executive. The Committee has a lengthy history going back to the pre-merger discussions of the ASU in 1992.

We encourage all members with concerns about matters in the energy industry to ensure their Branch representatives at the meeting in Hobart are informed of those concerns. All Branch contact details can be found at: http://www.asu.asn.au/contact/
