An end to violence against women - at work and everywhere else
Reclaim the Night (RTN) is an annual event where people get together to demand an end to violence against women. On the evening of Friday, October 27, 2006 the streets of a major city near you will be "reclaimed" in a symbolic act showing women should not be and will not be deterred from venturing out into the world for fear of violence. August 1-7 is World Breastfeeding Week!

Know your rights on sex discrimination
Yes, it still happens. And way too often. Women are being discriminated against in their workplaces because of their marital status, family responsibilities and because they are women! Many employers get away with this illegal behaviour because women don't know their rights. The new resource produced by the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) will help to educate indigenous women in particular to understand the facts on sex discrimination and what they can do. National Women’s Conference resolves to campaign to make work life balance a national priority
The ASU National Women’s Conference was held on 24th and 25th March 2004 in Brisbane. Delegates from all Branches around the country attended the Conference. The theme of the Conference was “Activism and the Work-Life Collision”. Time for paid maternity leave to become standard in all workplaces say unions
The move by major retailer Myer to introduce six weeks parental leave for its 10,000 full-time staff is a welcome first step towards a national paid maternity leave system say unions. Time to elect a Federal Govt that will act on maternity leave and better support for parents

United Nations process bypasses civil society consultation on women’s equality
A global trade union delegation representing more than 200 million members has sent an open letter to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon protesting the exclusion of civil voices in the shaping of recommendations on women’s equality at the UN’s annual meeting of the Commission on the Status of Women. 05 March 2010 [full story]
Women still losing out, here and abroad
One day a year women’s issues take centre stage – March 8, International Women’s Day. It seems the rest of the year women are less visible. 14 weeks paid maternity leave for all women
All Australian women would benefit from a national paid maternity leave scheme which allows for a minimum of 14 weeks leave at full pay as proposed by the ACTU in its submission to the Productivity Commission inquiry into paid parental leave. 29 May 2008 [full story]
2007 ASU Women's campaign launched
"Don't Be Too Polite Girls" is the campaign theme for ASU women in 2007. The campaign was launched by Assistant National Secretary Linda White during the 2006 ASU National Conference in Sydney. ASU says no to violence against women
November 25, 2006 is White Ribbon Day, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This week sees the launch of the United Nations White Ribbon Ambassadors in Australia which will bring together union, business, government and community leaders along with members of the entertainment field. Overseas research and ACTU support ASU’s agenda for working families
On 8 March 2003 (International Women’s Day) the ASU launched its strategy to embark on a 21st Century Agenda of achieving work life balance for our members. The ASU’s strategy involves the ASU bargaining for a ‘Life-Line of Entitlements’ for ASU members which involves recognition of their family and community commitments across their working lives. This Life-Line of Entitlements ensures that workers with small children, older children or dependent older parents can balance their caring responsibilities with their responsibilities within the workplace. Pay Equity NOW! is an electronic newsletter produced by Public Services International as part of its pay equity campaign. Work and Family Test Case begins
The Work and Family Test Case commenced yesterday in the Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC).
