It’s EBA time at P&O Nedlloyd

It's your EBA

The ASU has been in contact with P&O Nedlloyd management representatives regarding arrangements for negotiations for the new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA). This is an opportunity to secure better working conditions for employees.

Why is it important to be an ASU member?

With the active participation of ASU members and delegates, we will be able to secure the best possible working conditions in the future.

In negotiating your agreement, management is usually in a much stronger bargaining position than a divided, non-union workforce. They have access to specialist legal and industrial advice from the HR department, from law firms and from their own employer groups. It is management's job to act in the best interests of its shareholders - that is to minimise labour costs and to maximise its ability to make changes in the workforce.

The ASU is your union

Our only interest is to help our members to achieve the best possible outcome and to help protect their jobs. A united workforce and strong membership means that the ASU is able to devote substantial legal and industrial resources to representing P&O employees. It also means more negotiating power and a better deal. If it comes to a last resort situation, industrial action is more successful with greater union numbers.

What is the expected timeline for negotiations?

Election of employee reps for negotiations:
By the start of August

Initial Consultation and Surveys of ASU members:
By mid August

Beginning of negotiation meetings:
From mid August

Current Agreement Expires:
31 December 2004

What happens if the agreement expires?

If there is no new agreement, the current EBA carries over. That is, there will be no pay increases until the new agreement comes in.
