ASU members elected to Northern Territory municipal councils

The recent local government council elections held throughout the Northern Territory (NT) on Saturday March 29, 2008, resulted in two NT ASU members being elected to the Palmerston City Council and the Alice Springs Town Council.

ASU National Secretary Paul Slape, ASU SA & NT Branch Secretary Andrew Dennard and Assistant Branch Secretary Katrine Hildyard congratulated ASU members Sue McKinnon and John Rawnsley who have been elected as Aldermen to Palmerston City Council and Alice Springs Town Council, respectively

Sue McKinnon is an ASU Member Organiser based in Darwin who since February 2008 works alongside long term Darwin based ASU official Lucio Matarazzo. Sue McKinnon was previously an employee of the Palmerston City Council.

John Rawnsley is employed in Alice Springs as the Electorate Officer for Alison Anderson MLA for MacDonnell (ALP NT Parliamentarian). John Rawnsley is of Aboriginal decent and is 27 years of age.

Sue McKinnon was assisted in her campaign by Lucio Matarazzo and John Rawnsley was assisted in his campaign by Alice Springs based ASU official Stephen Weber.

Both Sue and John have been elected for four year terms.
