Jetstar Group Certificates Mess Update

The ASU has made representations to Jetstar about refunding the additional costs that staff have incurred to resubmit tax returns because of the incorrect 2011-2012 group certificates Jetstar issued.

Initially Jetstar told staff that reimbursements for accounting costs for this work would be $100. After our representations on this issue John Knox Acting Head Ground Operations has advised the union in writing on 10th August 2012 that:

“The amount of reimbursement is not capped at $100 and where an employee has evidence of a greater cost associated with amendments to their tax return and they provide the required reimbursement, we will reimburse the full amount. No employee will be out of pocket due to reissuing of the Group Certificates”.

If you have any difficulties in obtaining reimbursement let your local delegate know. Staff should have received a letter from the company about the error, if you don’t have that yet let us know too.

What else do we want?

We are still pursuing a meeting with the company to ascertain exactly how the errors occurred, this is not the first time such a large error has occurred, the payment of the EBA back-pay was also a complete mess.

Payroll is an important issue - every employee has a right to expect that they are paid and taxed correctly. We will keep you posted on any further discussions.

Starcare

Jetstar has advised the ASU that they have engaged a company Unified Health Care Group to provide services to staff who have work place injuries. This is a new workplace injury management program called Starcare.

Jetstar has promised that we will receive a presentation about this system - we are organising this for our national delegates group and we will report back after our meeting.
