ASU members endorse pausing bargaining until January 2021

30 July 2020 By ASU, the airlines industry union

The results are in. The majority of ASU members who voted in the ASU member poll have supported the pause in bargaining until January 2021. This means it is the ASU’s position is to agree to pause bargaining until January 2021.

Between then and now, you rights will be protected by a Memorandum of Understanding, which guarantees:

  • Your EBA is protected. Your EBA will continue until it is replaced by a new EBA or terminated by the Fair Work Commission. Management has given a binding promise not to ask the Fair Work Commission to terminate the EBA for the life of the MOU.
  • Progress in bargaining is preserved. When we start discussions again in January, we’re picking up discussions where we left off.
  • We can start bargaining again if something changes. Management have agreed to discuss starting bargaining again if circumstances change before January 2021. They’ve agreed they cannot unreasonably refuse to start bargaining.
  • We’ll keep working with management for a fairer, better workplace at Singapore Airlines.

Ask your organiser for a copy of the MOU.

Bargaining might be paused, but the ASU is still by your side. If you have a question or need assistance, contact your local organiser. Union staff can provide you with advice about your rights under the EBA and assist you to resolve workplace issues.

If you aren’t a union member, now is the time to join. You can join the ASU at
