After participating in workplace meetings across Australia, ASU members at Qantas have overwhelmingly voted to endorse the ASU EBA 10 deal negotiated and recommended by the ASU's Qantas National Negotiating Team.

The ASU has advised Qantas management of these results and so we expect that the company will shortly send the documents to staff covered by EBA 10 so that the formal process of consideration and voting can take place.

What's next?

All staff who are to be covered by EBA 10 will receive an email to their Qantas email address which contains:

  • A letter explaining the voting process which includes a table highlighting the differences between EBA 9 and EBA 10.
  • Copies of draft letters to the ASU detailing other matters that Qantas will commit to if EBA 10 is approved.

A hard copy of the letter and EBA are being sent to the home address of staff that do not have a Qantas email account. Everyone else will receive the material at their Qantas email account so make sure to check this account. We expect the emails to be sent by Friday 23rd August 2013.

The Fair Work Act requires that you have access to the EBA for 7 days before a ballot can proceed.

The ballot procedure

As with EBA 9, voting for EBA 10 will be conducted online by an external company, Elections Australia Pty Ltd. This company has conducted ballots for our EBA on previous occasions.

The ballot will electronically commence at 9.00 am Eastern Standard time on Saturday 31 August 2013 and close at midnight Eastern Standard time on Thursday 5 September 2013.

Voting is accessed via the website http://www.myvote.com.au/asueba10  where you will be required to submit personal information to access the ballot paper.

You can access the website and vote from any computer with internet access. You can only vote once.

Your vote remains secret and all information is destroyed at the completion of the ballot.

If you do not receive a letter or email contact Qantas IR either by phone 02 9691 2009 or internally on extension 22009 or email ebaexchange@qantas.com.au

A copy of the ASU Qantas EBA 10 and supporting materials will also be available on the ASU EBA 10 website http://www.asu.asn.au/airlines/qantaseba10

Although ASU members have voted in the ASU's internal approval process it is imperative that you also vote in the formal Fair Work Commission voting process.
