Today your ASU representatives met with Qantas to discuss the outcome of the EOI process. We were provided with a high level overview of the EOIs. What's clear is only a small number of people have nominated to transfer to Hobart, which falls well below the 80 staff Qantas had originally predicted would transfer.

Some staff have indicated they would be interested in transferring to Brisbane telesales.

The vast majority of staff in both Melbourne and Brisbane have nominated either redeployment within Qantas or redundancy.

Not all of the data was available and we have asked Qantas to provide us with a more detailed breakdown of people's first and second preferences. Qantas have undertaken to provide this.

Qantas also intends to meet with those staff who have indicated they want to transfer to Hobart and Brisbane as well as staff who have asked to be released early on redundancy.

Nothing is clear yet in relation to the overall implementation plan.

The ASU has requested another meeting when the full picture is available and once one on ones with staff have occurred. We will also hold discussions with Qantas soon about redeployment to other parts of the Qantas group.

The ASU has also raised:

  • Training, support and outplacement services - Qantas say they are close to finalising a package
  • More Superannuation briefings - yes these are being scheduled
  • Staff travel - still waiting on confirmation about LSL trips and rules around beneficiaries
  • Recruitment in Hobart & Auckland - Qantas confirmed they are recruiting in both Hobart and Auckland.
