ASU members say YES to Qantas EBA11 claim

01 March 2016 By ASU

ASU members across Australia have overwhelmingly endorsed the ASU’s EBA 11 claim after attending meetings across Australia to discuss the recommendations from the ASU Qantas National delegates meeting in February 2016.

What’s our claim?

ASU members endorsed a comprehensive claim which recognises that ASU members play a significant role in Qantas’ Operations and that they have been hit hardest by job cuts. Today everyone is working harder than ever.

A full copy of our claim is available on the ASU’s campaign website www.asu.asn.au/airlines/qantaseba11

What next?

Our first bargaining meeting is scheduled for 10th March 2016.

The ASU National Negotiating Team will detail our claim to Qantas management and we will also hear what Qantas’ claims are too.

We want to program regular fortnightly meetings with management and after each meeting we will report back to members on our progress, so watch out for our bulletins.

Face to face with the CFO

On 25th February 2016 your EBA 11 national negotiating team also took the time to meet with Qantas Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Tino La Spina before bargaining starts in earnest to get a briefing on the record profit the company has recorded this half year.

This was an opportunity for your reps to tell the CFO in no uncertain terms what is happening at the frontline with less resources. The CFO said it was not management’s aim for staff to be working harder they wanted staff to work “smarter” – needless to say your reps were able to list many, many areas where technological upgrades had been promised, and never materialised yet staff numbers had been cut and the remaining staff were affected adversely. If that is not a massive productivity gain we don’t know what is!

Our discussion was very lively – as it always is when theory conflicts with frontline practice! The CFO did not leave wondering what ASU members think.
