QANTAS TO START NEXT STEPS IN RESTRUCTURE PROCESS

25 March 2021 By ASU

On 23 March 2021, the ASU met with Qantas to discuss the results of the non-binding EOI process. Qantas says that it is ready to start a binding EOI process and start recruitment for the new FOC and FPO roles.

Binding EOI

Qantas will ask employees to make a binding expression of interest on voluntary redundancy and other measures to mitigate compulsory redundancy. The EOI will be binding on the employee and not the employer.

The EOI will be open from Wednesday, 24 March until Sunday, 11 April 2021.

There will be further consultation in the week of 12 April to discuss the outcomes of the EOI.

New FPO and FOC roles

The company will advertise the FOC and FPO roles from Wednesday, 24 March. Affected employees in each port will have first priority for interviews, but the jobs will be open to all Qantas employees. This includes Freight employees in lower grades.

We’ve provided feedback to the company about the new roles, which were undersubscribed in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. To encourage more people to apply, we have made the following proposals:

  • red-circle employees when they take on a lower grade role (Eg a Level 6 applying for a L5 FPO role).
  • add extra lines of FOCs to ensure leave coverage in Sydney and Brisbane.
  • maintain some FCO lines in Adelaide and Perth to help with the freighter work.
