The ASU asks Fair Work Commission to recognise Disability Workers who support clients with COVID-19

22 May 2020 By ASU

Disability workers are on the front-lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our society is relying on you to make sure that people with a disability get the support they need in these troubled times. Your hard work should be recognised.

The ASU has lodged an application in the Fair Work Commission to vary the SCHDS Award for an allowance to recognise disability workers when they work with a client who is self-isolating because of COVID-19.

We have asked the Fair Work Commission to vary the SCHDS Award so that a disability worker is paid an allowance of $4.94 for each hour they work with a client who has COVID-19 or is isolating because they may have COVID-19.

This allowance recognises the huge responsibility of caring for a person with such an infectious disease.

We filed our evidence and submissions on Wednesday, 20 May. We will keep you updated as the case progresses.

Paid Pandemic Leave

Our case to win paid pandemic leave continues! The Fair Work Commission will hear our case on 25 and 26 June.
