Concerns About Classification at Virgin Australia

06 December 2023 By ASU

It has come to our attention that some members may have concerns or questions about their current employment classification at Virgin Australia. Your classification is a crucial aspect of your employment, impacting pay. Concerns may include previously being appointed to a role and it not being honoured in the new classification.

What You Can Do

  1. If you believe that your current classification may be incorrect or if you have any uncertainties, we urge you to reach out to your ASU Organiser. Your Organiser is here to assist you in addressing these concerns and ensuring that your classification accurately reflects your role and responsibilities.
  2. Fill Out an Authority to Act by clicking this linkor contacting your ASU Organiser directly by no later than COB Thursday 14 December.

Your active participation is crucial in maintaining the integrity of your employment conditions. Rest assured that the ASU is here to support you every step of the way.

Backpay

We met with the Airline to discuss its appalling handling of backpay. We raised your concerns and advocated that all members urgently receive the backpay they are entitled to. We are hoping payments will be made this week – but we are not holding our breath until we have final confirmation, given our experiences with payroll gremlins at VA. We will keep you updated as soon as we receive further information.

Holiday Program Payment

The ASU has written to Virgin Australia requesting that the Airline treat all employees equally and pay you the same additional payment that is it making to Cabin Crew over the holiday period. We understand the challenges you face as frontline workers dealing with disruptions and customer dissatisfaction. It's disappointing that the backpay process did not go as planned and Virgin Australia is not treating all of its frontline staff the same. We will keep members updated.
